BMX Legend, Kevin Robinson, Suspends Retirement to Set World Record in Hometown of Providence with Longest Backflip
Guinness World Record Confirms 84-Foot Backflip Accomplished by Retired, Four-Time X Games Gold Medalist
Providence, Rhode Island — In 2013 after 22 years of competing professionally in the sport of BMX, Kevin Robinson hung up his competitive helmet and said goodbye to the sport he has loved for more than three decades. After retiring from competitions with four X Games gold medals and hundreds of accomplishments to his name, there was still one thing the 44-year-old wanted to accomplish. Robinson started the planning to make a dream of his become a reality, and on Saturday, August 13, in his hometown of Providence, Robinson set a new world record for longest power-assisted bicycle backflip. With the support of his city, his family and ESPN giving the feat a national platform, Robinson landed the 84-foot backflip on his second attempt.

“This Guinness Record is a very proud moment for me,” said Robinson. “Not only because of the record itself, but the process it took to get here. This record represents the love for family, the loyalty of friends, commitment, and the pure determination to make a dream a reality. I’m proud to represent the great state of Rhode Island and the folks that live in it, and I’m thankful to ESPN for their support and putting my dream on a world stage.”
ESPN televised the event live on “World of X Games”, and the city of Providence hosted a festive event for the community in Kennedy Plaza. Log on here to see the world record.
When Robinson isn’t making world records, you can find him sitting in the broadcast seat for ESPN commentating BMX events at the X Games as well as reaching thousands of youth through his school programs on anti-bullying.
